The Inspiration Inside

Hi Friends,

We are surrounded by inspiration.

It lives in the stories of history, in the quiet resilience of nature, and in the examples of those who have overcome extraordinary obstacles - people all around us. Inspiration lives in fiction, family and friends. (It took some courage and the beauty of Maui inspire to inspire my son and I to go me parasailing as seen above.)

I hope I never stop being inspired by the world around me.

But lately I’ve been wondering if we’ve become a little too dependent on looking outward for inspiration.

Every scroll through social media offers another person to admire. Another body to emulate. Another career to chase. Another morning routine, another meal plan, another standard that whispers, “Be more like this.”

And if we are not careful, “You are not enough as you are.”

The challenge is that there will always be someone who is stronger, faster, wealthier, more accomplished, more beautiful, or seemingly more put together than we are.

If our inspiration always lives somewhere outside of us, we’ll spend our lives chasing a moving target. And missing what is right there in front of us - or, within us.

What if, instead, we became the kind of people who inspire ourselves?

If you admire someone who is strong, ask yourself, What does a strong person do today? Perhaps they lift weights, nourish their body with enough protein, prioritize sleep, and keep promises to themselves.

If you admire someone who is calm, what does a calm person practice? Maybe they pause before reacting, take walks without their phone, breathe deeply, or create space for reflection.

If you admire a good friend, what does a good friend do? They check in unexpectedly. They celebrate someone else’s success without comparison. They listen. They show up.

When you begin practicing the very qualities you admire, something shifts.

You are no longer waiting to become someone else.

You are becoming more fully yourself. It was already in you - that’s why you admired it! You just had to try it on.

And perhaps that’s where the deepest kind of inspiration is found—not in comparing ourselves to another person’s life, but in living in alignment with our own values, one small decision at a time.

There is a quiet confidence that grows when your actions begin to match the person you hope to become.

Not because you’ve arrived.

But because every day, you are becoming someone you respect.

This week, ask yourself:

Who inspires me?

Then ask the more important question:

What are they doing that I can begin practicing today?

You may discover that your greatest source of inspiration has been waiting for you all along.

With you on the journey,

Molly
